Getting the Best Boat Landing Possible
The KLWA, LIPPC, and Townspeople want the town to have the best possible boat landing
We applaud the town for obtaining state funds and other grants to offset the cost
We appreciate the work that the selectmen have done to date and we want to work together with them to get a landing that works for everyone
However, this group has serious concerns about the current design
It unnecessarily removes 22 trees from the town park – and will increase blow down probability
It violates shoreland zoning area by creating around a 2000 sq. ft. opening in the tree canopy
It creates Operational and Safety concerns for LIPPC personnel and the public
It creates congestion on the ramp
It will allow access for much larger boats on the lake
Simple modifications to the plan Eliminate these concerns
KLWA, LIPPC and these townspeople have worked with an engineer, forester, and other professionals to come up with a slightly modified design to address and overcome those concerns. We are asking the Planning Board to review and adopt this slightly modified plan.
The town would not incur any additional costs for these modifications because the KLWA has pledged to cover those costs. In addition, the cost of the project would be less to construct.
What are the simple modifications? - Moving the handicapped parking from the town park to the current parking in the field.
Proposed Modification Moving the Parking
Resulting Proposed Design – How it works
Benefits of the Simple Modified Design
Costs less
Fully ADA Compliant
Easier to Back Down the Ramp – No Boat Parked Next to You
Trees are Saved and Not Permanently Taken away from the Park
No increase in blow down likelihood
Meets the Requirements of the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance
Better Environmentally for the Lake: Less hard runoff surface close to the lake
Enhanced Safety for LIPPC Personnel and for Visitors
Allows only the same sized boats as always to be launched
